Happy New Year! - My 2018 Reading Goals

Hello readers,

it is a new year, a fresh start! - And it was much needed after the second half of 2017. I wish you all a Happy New Year and want to thank you for sticking by me.

I needed some time to reset and I took it. I read a lot although I didn`t blog. For 2018 I have used the past two weeks to plan new adventures for the blog. I am going to do my first ever readathon and it will be big (more to that will come at the end of February!) and there will be come so much more.

For today I wanted to fill you all in on my reading goals for 2018.

1. Read 5 Book Series
2017 was the first year where I started a series and would binge read it right away and it was so much fun. I usually do not read many trilogies or series outside the crime/thriller genre, so for this year I want to change that.
I haven`t yet fully decided what 5 Series I want to read this year but I will let you know in a seperate post soon.

2. Read more Non Fiction
Non Fiction is rarely on my TBR. From time to time I pick one up but I usually do not mention them on the blog. I also want to change that and set myself a goal of reading at least three Non-Fiction books in the year of 2018. I will also have a seperate post for the ones I want to read up soon.

3. Read more classics that are not required reading
If you follow me on Goodreads (which you are welcome to do, because I often do not manage to review every single book I read on the blog, but I have them listed on Goodreads) you know that I have read 16 classics this year and only two of them were not required reading. I currently (hopefully) have my last class on literature for a while, which ends in February but surely is followed up with a home assignement, therefor this goal is more for the second half of 2018, but I definetly want to read more classics that I picked myself. I feel enjoying classics is tricky for me if I haven`t picked them myself and am forced to read them. I will probably go more in depth with this topic once my class is over, I have taken a little break from classics and then pick my own little classics TBR for the second half of 2018.

4. Pick up more authors that I didn`t know yet
You may not know this but I am such a picky reader. I hate giving bad reviews and am actually scared of it. Which is why I like sticking to authors that I already know and which stops me from exploring new authors. Merphy Napier over on Booktube has recommended Kasie West now so often to me and I really want to pick up a book by her this year (but not just Kasie West) but I am somehow afraid I might not enjoy it. So this year I want to get out of my comfort zone and explore some new authors. I already have a little list as a reminder, now it is just picking the books.

And my last goal for 2018 would be:

Have fun reading

Yes, you read that right. As goal number 3 has probably given away I enjoy reading less when it is a chore or better explained when I have to read books that I haven`t picked myself and that most times are not what I like to read.
I also reviewed a lot of ARCs last year, which I in general like to do and I feel honored and very thankful to have gotten those opportunities, but toward the end of the year I noticed I have taken to many in and felt stressed out about it. Which for this year made me very picky on that front, but I just need a little breather. Go to the book store and hunt down some reads for myself. I do not decline requests in general but for this year I decided to only pick those I am a 100% I am going to like.
With that said I might read less this year (or maybe not) but I definetly want to enjoy it (might also lead to more DNFing books, which I usually do not do).

I hope you had a great start into 2018.
Let me know your 2018 reading goals in the comments below and I see you again soon for another bookish post.

Take care,
đź“šNadja
